Visual Art
In Visual Art this term, Year 1 students focused on colour, line and shape. Students viewed and discussed features of artworks by American artist Alma Thomas. Then using paint created their colourful background. They chose their favourite colours and shapes. They used mirrors to observe their features and draw themselves.
A selection of these colourful portraits will be at our Harmony Day assembly on Friday 21st of March.

Pre-Primary
This term, students in Dangalang (Rm 15) and Koorla (Rm 16) have been digging into the biological sciences by planting wheatgrass. The students have been monitoring and recording the growth from their seeds, enhancing their scientific skills and fostering a sense of responsibility.
In Literacy, the students have been focusing on the first initial sounds of “SATPIN.” As part of their play-based learning, students enjoyed a nature walk when focusing on “N,” collecting nature items and creating fantastic collages for their classrooms.
Harmony Week
Tomorrow (Friday 20 March) is our Harmony Day Assembly and Cultural Dress Day.
Students are encouraged to celebrate by wearing clothes which represent their cultural heritage. They may also choose to wear the colour orange, which traditionally signifies social communication and encouragement of mutual respect.

eSafety
As a school community, we are committed to fostering a safe and respectful online environment for all students, both at school and beyond.
To support families in navigating online safety, we encourage our community to visit the eSafety Commissioner’s website – www.esafety.gov.au – which provides valuable resources, guidance, and practical advice on how to help children engage positively and responsibly online.
While our school will continue to educate students on appropriate and acceptable online engagement as part of the learning programs, parents/carers can reinforce responsible digital behaviour and safety at home by:
- Monitoring your child’s online activity and encouraging open conversations about their experiences.
- Setting clear guidelines around appropriate online conduct.
- Educating your child on respectful communication and the impact of their online interactions.
- Reporting any concerns about online behaviour to the relevant platforms or authorities – such as the eSafety Commissioner (esafety.gov.au/report)
Families may also be interested in a free parent information session being presented by Communicare, Meerilinga, Midvale Hub Parenting Service and Parenting Connection WA – The Tech Diet for Parents. This session is designed to provide practical solutions for managing screen time and understanding tech addiction.

SPLASH & DASH P&C FUNDRAISER – NOW LAUNCHED
This fundraiser was launched at last Fridays assembly with much excitement from the kids.
Unfortunately for Mr Youd he has been chosen to be slimed on Friday 11th April at the run event. That will be his 3rd year in a row to receive that green gooey slime shampoo hair treatment.
So who will be sliming Mr Youd? The top fundraising child by this Friday will be, good luck kids! And remember what you are fundraising for, the upkeep and refurbishment of the aging P&C Hall!

NEXT P&C MEETING
Our next meeting will be next Wednesday 26th March in the Staff Room starting at 7pm. It will go for about 1 hour and I would love to see as many parents there as possible, especially if you are new to the school. Together with Robert Marshall we identify school projects to improve the learning environment for our children so your input is vital. RSVP to me so that I know to expect you. See you there!

The canteen team would like to say a big thank you for all the orders, we have been getting busier and busier every week and appreciate the support.
Remember if you want to order birthday cupcakes from the canteen, we need at least a week’s notice. Send us an e-mail to como.cookout@gmail.com to lock your order in the diary. Cupcakes are $2 each, choose between chocolate and vanilla.
Just a reminder again to change your child’s classroom numbers to the new one for this year on your profile, we are still having a lot of kids that can’t find their orders because it went into last year’s basket.
Roster
We rely heavily on volunteers to help us out in the canteen. It is a great way to get involved in our amazing community and it gives you a chance to have a chat and meet new people. We will make you work hard, but it is all easy jobs like cutting up fruit, making sandwiches, selling items at recess and lunch etc.To say thank you, we offer you a free lunch for your child, so that’s one less lunchbox for you to pack! Please remember to wear enclosed shoes when you come in, long hair must be tied up and always sign in at the front office.

Perth Goju Karate
Perth Goju Karate teaches karate classes at Como Primary School, in the school hall.
A special offer for Como students - 4 WEEKS FREE beginners karate lessons!
Classes are held after school on Friday’s and are a great way for children of all ages to learn self-defense in a fun and safe environment.
We also teach classes for teens and adults and they are fantastic for fitness, wellbeing and of course, self-defense.
Students who attend the schools on-site After Care are collected and taken to the class in the hall and returned to After Care when their class is finished.
Classes continue over the school holidays (with a short break over the Christmas period) which makes it perfect for the kids who are looking to try something on the holidays.
