Tournament of Minds Regional Competition

Over the weekend, several of our talented Senior LEAP students took part in the Tournament of Minds regional competition at ECU Joondalup, showcasing their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills in a challenging and high-energy environment. Although none of our teams progressed to the finals this year, we are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school. A special congratulations goes to our STEM team, who were awarded a Merit Certificate for their outstanding work – a fantastic achievement! Each team tackled complex challenges with enthusiasm and persistence, and it was a joy to see their ideas come to life after weeks of preparation. A big thank you to the families who supported our students throughout the lead-up and on the day – your encouragement means so much. Well done to all involved!

Year 1 STEM Activities

In Year 1, our students have been busy becoming budding engineers and designers in their Design and Technology unit. Each student chose an animal and then created a special shelter using recycled materials. They carefully thought about which materials would be suitable to protect their animal from the weather and predators, then designed their shelter on paper before bringing it to life. The creativity and problem-solving skills on display have been fantastic, and the students had so much fun along the way. Next week, the real test begins as we put our shelters through ‘wind and rain’ challenges.  We can’t wait to see how well they withstand the elements!

SunSmart Reminder

As a registered SunSmart school, we are committed to keeping our students safe in the sun. To maintain our accreditation and protect our students, it is important that all children wear their wide-brimmed hats from the time they arrive at school each morning and during all break times.

We ask for your support in reminding and encouraging your child to bring and wear their hat every day. Together, we can help keep our students sun safe throughout the year.

Market Day – Wednesday 24 September!

On Wednesday 24 September, our Year 6 students will be running their much-anticipated Markets Day!

Students have been busy creating fun stalls full of games, activities and treats for everyone to enjoy. Prices will vary, so please bring along a mix of gold coins and 50c pieces to join in the fun.

Students may also wear free dress on the day with a gold coin donation, with all funds raised going to the Prefects’ chosen charity – All Stars for Autism.

It’s always a fantastic afternoon of fun, creativity and community spirit. We look forward to seeing our students get behind this great cause!

House Athletics Carnival – Friday 12th September

We are excited to confirm that our House Athletics Carnival is on this Friday, 12th September. This is always one of the highlights of the year, with a full day of sprint and relay events, team games and novelty activities.

Morning Schedule:

• Students will attend their classroom as normal to record attendance. 
• They will then move to the basketball court to assemble in their Houses at 8.50am, before marching down to the oval.

What Students Need to Bring:

• School bag with recess and lunch (as per school policy, no lollies are allowed).
• A hat and plenty of water.
• Learning materials, including iPads, are to be left at home.

Spectator Information:
We love having families join us to cheer on the students! To ensure a smooth day, please remain in the designated spectator areas and refrain from entering House Bays.

Spectator viewing areas are:

1. Balcony of the old art room/studio
2. Behind the footy goals on the Labouchere Road side
3. Behind the footy goals on the Coode Street side
4. The limestone steps separating the top and bottom oval

Break times are:

• Recess: 10:55–11:15am
• Lunch: 12:20–1:00pm
  These are the best opportunities to catch up with your child. Students will stay on the top and bottom ovals at all times, aside from when using the bathroom.

Event Order:
The day will kick off with the 200m races, followed by sprints and novelty events.

This promises to be an action-packed day filled with fun, good sportsmanship, competition and plenty of House spirit.

Interschool Carnival:

With Day 2 of the House Carnival rescheduled to Friday 12 September (Week 8), successful competitors will move straight into the Interschool Carnival on Friday 19 September (Week 9). Due to recent weather conditions, all schools within the SMPSSA association have had to make adjustments to their carnival dates, resulting in a shorter turnaround leading into the combined interschool competition. Despite the quick transition, we are looking forward to the challenge and are confident our students will be well prepared.

A big thank you to all the parents who have already come along to support their children—it has been wonderful to see such a strong turnout from our school community.

Mr Stephens

The latest Virtues Storybook, Dimension Destruction, is now complete and ready for borrowing from our school library.

This exciting storyline was created by Remy, Magnus and Dasindu (Year 4), who combined their imagination with themes from Minecraft and Star Wars. Their storyline was brought to life by talented illustrators Alicia, Aadya, Ananya and Amy, who were also familiar with the characters and worlds woven into the tale.

Although the storyline was completed in Term 1, production was paused while I was on long service leave in Term 2. The team showed admirable patience and cooperation in seeing the project through to the end. The story was presented to Room 8, Janda, and is now part of our growing Virtues Storybook collection.
