Interschool Winter Sports Carnival – Term 2, Week 7
Friday, 13 June | Hosted by Como Primary School at Manning Primary School
We’re excited to announce that the Interschool Winter Sports Carnival will take place in Week 7, on Friday the 13th of June. This year marks a special occasion, as it will be the first time in several years that all three sports—Soccer, AFL, and Netball—will run concurrently, making for a huge and action-packed day of events!
Como Primary School will proudly be sending four teams to the carnival:
1 Mixed Soccer Team
1 Mixed AFL Team
A & B Netball Teams
Additionally, a number of our Netball Squad students will be joining the Curtin B Team to help support their numbers, showcasing the spirit of teamwork and collaboration across schools.
Try-outs and training have been well underway since Week 8 of last term, and our students have been working with dedication and enthusiasm to sharpen their skills in preparation.
We are looking forward to a fantastic day of sport, teamwork, and school spirit. More detailed information, including team lists, schedules, and requirements, will be shared in the coming weeks.
2025 House Cross Country Carnival – Get Ready to Race!
We’re excited to announce that the 2025 House Cross Country Carnival will be held on Friday 1st August (Week 2, Term 3)!
Students from Years 3 to 6 are invited to nominate for their House Cross Country Race. Distances are as follows:
Years 3 & 4: 1.2 km (3.5 laps)
Years 5 & 6: 1.6 km (4.5 laps)
To ensure students are prepared for the challenge, all participants must demonstrate their ability to complete the course in under 10 minutes during their PE lessons. We have already been running the course at the start of each PE lesson to ensure will be ready by the time training sessions come around later in the term.
Nominations open in Week 5 of Term 2—so start training and get ready to represent your House with pride!
Course Procedure:
- The race begins at the yellow start line, located at the bottom of Alston Avenue.
- Students must keep the yellow/blue crosses on their left shoulder at all times, staying close to the tree line along Alston Avenue.
- They will run in front of the jump pit and AFL goals, then head up the stairs to the top oval.
- Keeping the crosses on their left, runners will enter the concrete ramp and follow it down onto the lower oval.
- Once at the bottom, they continue running in front of the second set of AFL goals (near Labouchere Road) and pass through the start line to begin their next lap.
- After completing three laps (Years 3 & 4) or four laps (Years 5 & 6), students will run one final half-lap: starting from the start line and finishing at the blue finish line.
