Celebrating Learning

Thank you to the students in Koordjit (Room 6) for sharing their persuasive expositions. Students chose (or created) unique options for pets, providing arguments to convince the reader why their choice was “the best pet ever.”

Special attention was placed on the structure of their paragraphs and overall expositions, and the use of impactful, persuasive language.

Supporting Learning Through Community Connections

In the last week, our school has participated in two national events as part of our commitment to community connections (Strategic Pathway 3: Positive Partnerships & Relationships).

Walk Safely To School Day

Last week, Como PS participated in Walk Safely To School Day, joining students and families from across the country in promoting road safety, healthy habits and environmental awareness. Our school was joined by officers from Kensington Police Station who were giving away stickers and temporary tattoos, and providing the opportunity for students to check out a police vehicle.

It was wonderful to see so many of our students and families walking, riding, or scooting to school with enthusiasm and community spirit. Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day a success!

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday, all students at Como Primary School participated in the 25th annual National Simultaneous Storytime. This event supports children’s literacy and Australian authors by encouraging reading through fun, community events.

This year’s featured book was ‘The Truck Cat’ by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. Students across our school (and across the country) shared in the reading, and engaged in a range of age-appropriate learning activities based on the book.

School Board Training

This week, members of our School Board were joined by board members of four other schools from the Curtin Education Community Network at a training session presented by the Department’s Leadership Institute. This session strengthened the understanding of the roles and functions of a School Board, and will assist our board members to positively impact the strategic directions of the school.

Active participation by our School Board forms part of our Strategic Pathway 4: Effective Governance & Leadership.
