Building Staff Capacity
At Como Primary School, our teachers work in Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) to drive improvement through self-guided action learning projects. Three hours of meeting time each term is dedicated to PLTs exploring a priority area linked to student outcomes, using classroom-based inquiry to trial and reflect on effective strategies.
This semester, the PLTs have been focused on:
- Strengthening social and emotional learning the early years.
- Explicit teaching of high order thinking skills in Mathematics
- Consolidating understanding and instruction of reading comprehension skills and strategies.
- Strengthening our approach to supporting the early needs of EAL/D students.
Yesterday, PLTs shared their action learning projects and outcomes with their colleagues. These presentations are a great opportunity for staff to learn from one another, celebrate progress, and build on ideas to make a real difference for students.
