Welcome to Term 2
We hope that all in our school community had a safe and enjoyable holiday period. It was wonderful to see everyone back for the first day on Tuesday, and I have enjoyed hearing about the students’ holiday adventures.
As we continue through the term, our school will continue to keep our students as the focus for all we do. I look forward to working with the school community as we strive to always meet our school motto – Only Our Best.
Celebrating Learning – Building Staff Capacity
A key commitment within our Strategic Pathway 2 – Inclusive & Engaging Learning Environment - is strengthening our approach to addressing physical, social and emotional needs of students.
Everyone experiences the world through their senses in unique ways, and for students these differences can impact how they learn and engage. By being mindful and proactive in supporting students’ individual sensory input needs, our staff help to create learning environments where everyone feels comfortable, focused and ready to learn.
During our Term 2 Staff Development Day, staff engaged in a session run by Berry Johnston (Lil Peeps Occupational Therapy). This session focused on:
- Identifying sensory processing needs within the classroom environment.
- Implementing strategies to integrate our new sensory toolkits to support and build student self-regulation.
Our new sensory toolkits are now in classrooms to equip staff with additional tools to utilise strategies to support student self-regulation, and to increase student readiness for learning.
Thank you to Berry for running the session, and to the staff who worked last term to put together our new sensory toolkits.
Celebrating Learning – Art Club
What is Pop Art? Pop Art is fun, bright, bold and attention-grabbing art. It originated in the 1950's.
Last term a group of Year 3 and 4 students explored Pop Art in Art Club. We viewed and discussed famous Pop artists, Andy Warhol and Wedha Abdul Rashyid. Students created a Pop Art print of themselves, experimented with fluorescent paint and chose a background. The results speak for themselves, with each student creating a bright, colourful and eye-catching piece of artwork. Brilliant work Art Club.
