Interschool Winter Carnival - Tomorrow
The highly anticipated SMPSSA Interschool Winter Carnival is taking place tomorrow, Friday 13 June. Como Primary School will be proudly represented by an A and B Netball team, an AFL team, and an A Soccer squad.
This exciting three-sport carnival has been three months in the making, and our students have shown incredible dedication—training two to three times a week since Week 8 of last term. Their hard work and commitment to their team contracts have been inspiring. It’s been wonderful to witness their growth in both skill and understanding of the game, consistently matched by a high standard of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Each team will compete against the four other schools in their division for a chance to take home the overall championship trophy. The first matches begin at 10:00am, with the final games finishing around 1:30pm.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic day of competition and are already extremely proud of all our students for their efforts. Let’s cheer them on and hope to bring home a trophy!
Interschool Cross Country Update
While Como PS has been quietly preparing for our upcoming House Cross Country Carnival—scheduled for Week 2 of Term 3, Thursday 1 August—two of our students have already been achieving remarkable results on the interschool stage.
Joanie S (Year 6) and Koby S (Year 3) recently competed in the SSWA Regional Interschool Cross Country Carnival on 28 May, racing against hundreds of students from across the metropolitan area. Koby delivered a strong performance, finishing in the top third of a race with over 300 competitors in his division. Joanie placed an impressive 9th in a similarly large field.
Joanie’s top-30 finish earned her a place at the State Cross Country Championships on 9 June, where she went on to finish 6th in the state—an extraordinary achievement. This outstanding result has secured Joanie a position in the WA Cross Country Squad, and she will now represent the state at the National Cross Country Championships in Queensland this September.
These are truly exceptional accomplishments for both Joanie and Koby, and we are, like their proud parents, incredibly impressed by their dedication, perseverance, and athletic talent. Their tireless training has paid off, and we wish Joanie the very best as she prepares for the national competition.
Further details about the upcoming House Cross Country Carnival will be included in next week’s newsletter.
