Hosting External Service Providers
One way our school aims to support our students is through collaboration with families and parent-initiated external services providers (such as occupational therapists).
To minimise disruption to a student’s learning, our school may be able to support services to be delivered at the school. All decisions for parent-initiated requests for service providers to work with students at the school are at the discretion of the Principal. The Principal will consider the:
- Wellbeing and educational needs of the child
- Goals set within documented plans
- Impact on other students and staff
- Timing and duration of the access needed
- Ability of your child to access the service outside school hours or through existing school or Department programs
- Availability of suitable room or space; and
- Duty of care to all students and staff.
If you are considering seeking to have an external provider engage with your child at the school, please come directly to the school (before you make plans with a provider) to discuss your request.
There is an increasing demand for these types of sessions to be accommodated by the school, and we have limited space. Please be mindful that the school may not be able to accommodate all requests.
Student Travel During School Term
Our school has set a target to increase our overall rate of student attendance to 95%, and to reduce the percentage of students at indicated risk to below 12%.
The two biggest causes of student absence at our school are illness (2024 -59.5%) and vacations during term time (2024 – 25.1%).
Our school encourages all in our school community to maximise student attendance by keeping vacations outside term time.
The School Education Act 1999 does not allow principals to give permission for families to take holidays during the school term. Time off for vacations is recorded as an absence, and teachers are not able to provide work packages.
If your child will be out of school due to travel, parents need to contact the school (addressed to the Principal) in writing prior to leaving – providing the dates of absence and explaining the reason for the travel. The Principal will decide and notify families as to whether the absence will be recorded as an approved or unapproved absence.
If travelling during the school term, we encourage families to make trips educationally valuable. This might include your child:
- Keeping a diary of their experiences
- Engaging in educational or cultural activities
- Assisting in planning events and activities
- Being responsible for budgeting for souvenirs
